Quarter Four: Quarterly reporting on the Policy Community Engagement Tool
Overview
From 2022, all government agencies undertaking public engagements as part of the response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Terrorist Attack on Christchurch Masjidain are required to use the Policy Community Engagement Tool (the Tool) to inform their engagements. The Tool has been designed to provide guidance to public servants on good public engagement practice and process in the design, development and implementation of policies and programmes. It has been created in response to recommendation 38 of the RCOI Report.
As part of this requirement, agencies are asked to report-back on their use of the Engagement Tool on a quarterly basis. The quarterly reporting will help DPMC:
- inform ongoing reporting to Ministers, RCOI Response Steering Group and Kāpuia on how RCOI response agencies are using the Tool in the implementation of RCOI recommendations (specifically recommendation 38);
- understand which aspects of the Tool are most helpful in supporting agencies to make an assessment (with communities in some cases) about the appropriate level of engagement, and to undertake engagement particularly at the IAP2 ‘involve and collaborate’ levels of engagement;
- understand areas where the Tool (or additional resources) can be further developed and improved; and
- support reflective practice and encourage a culture of sharing lessons learnt across agencies.
Process
We ask that all agencies working on the RCOI response submit an answer, even if you have not worked on any engagements in Q3 2022.
Please note, agencies are not required to coordinate their responses.
This questionnaire is open from Wednesday 25th January until 11.59pm on Thursday 9th February. The questions will focus on all engagement activity undertaken during the fourth quarter of 2022 (October-December 2022).
